Belford Community First Responders are volunteers who have been recruited and trained to act on behalf of the North East Ambulance Service, responding to emergency calls in the Belford area when dispatched by Ambulance control. They can deal with a specific list of emergencies and provide the patient with support and appropriate treatment until an ambulance arrives.
Since 2008 members have responded to a variety of calls, mainly in the village but sometimes up to about 4 miles away. Calls average about ten a year and have woken the volunteers up as early as 5am and as late as 2am!
There is a comprehensive selection, training and monitoring process to ensure quality.
If you are interested in becoming a BCFR volunteer please first read the notes under the community section of the NEAS website at www.neambulance.nhs.uk and then make contact with Paul Brolly, First Responder Coordinator at paul.brolly@neas.nhs.uk.
